Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R Hakosuka KPGC10

The Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1968 as a 4-door sedan, and the now iconic GT-R 2-door coupe debuted in 1970. Among Japanese enthusiasts, this first-generation GT-R is nicknamed 'Hakosuka'. The direct translation to English is 'Box Sky'. ハコ (hako) being the Japanese word for box and relating to the car's boxy shape, and スカ (suka) being the Japanese abbreviation for Skyline.

Standing for Gran Turismo Racer, Nissan intended for the Skyline GT-R to go racing. Through 1972, the GT-R dominated Japanese touring car racing by amassing 50 victories, 49 of them consecutively. The victories were split between the 4-door sedan with 33 wins and the 2-door coupe with 17 wins.

Setting the GT-R apart from the standard Skylines are its sporty bodywork and high-performance engine. The legendary S20 inline 6-cylinder engine is naturally aspirated, displaces 2 liters, and produces 160 horsepower and 130 pounds-per-foot of torque. It features pent roof combustion chambers in the cross-flow cylinder head with four valves per cylinder, triple side-draft carburetors, and dual overhead camshafts. Rounding out the driveline is a close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
